Tires Beware: Electronic Line-Lock is Standard on All 2018 Mustang Models

What is electronic line-lock? It's a mechanism that allows you to engage the front brakes of your car while leaving the rear brakes unfettered. One guess why anyone would want that.

Line-lock systems allow the driver to spin the tires of a rear-wheel-drive car while keeping the vehicle safely stationary, for a glorious burnout. Drag racers do it to get their racing slicks warmed up and free of contaminants before launch. Now, anyone with a 2018 Ford Mustang can do it, too!

"We introduced line-lock on EcoBoost Mustangs because we didn’t want those customers to miss out," said Mark Schaller, Ford Mustang marketing manager. "The number of people choosing EcoBoost power continues to grow globally, and with the increased torque and new features coming on the new Mustang, customers will not be disappointed."

Just one word of caution to any casual buyers—burnouts scrape tread off your tires at an alarming rate. You might want to keep a separate set of sticky tires for the track, and a nice set of civilized tires with good tread for the road, or you'll quickly find yourself driving on exposed wire cord.
